Rational questions for the vision, mission and strategic objectives of the county

Many countries in Africa have focused on structural projects like building roads, health facilities, schools, colleges, universities, etc, which are all commendable.

This has helped in the creation of ECDEs to support the intellectual growth of reception year learners as their national government (through related ministries of education) embarks on Competence Based Curriculum.

They have also embraced the concept of Talent Academies that is designed to tap and develop the talents in the youth It is believed that talent is about poetry, drama, sports, music, dancing, and the like. So the Talent Academies will be something that would help in the identification and development of these kinds of talent.

However, talent is more than that and the talents that inspire the desires in sports, culture and art have only popped up and not by any scientific design but by “natural emergence”, usually known through the guesswork of our “naked eyes”. Focus is more on “winning” talent that is visible and celebrated in the media.
So you might need to ask yourself a few questions:

  • Is talent about poetry, drama, sports, music, dancing, and the like?
  • Can you know someone’s talent or competence by “naked eye” observation just like we touch the forehead of children when sick and declare “malaria”, yet weknow fever is a symptom of other sicknesses like pneumonia, typhoid , etc?
  • Is it enough to await an obviously exhibited talent then invest, just like when a musician or athlete pops up, and we all want to identify with their talent for PR or national celebration?
  • How will a county identify group talents if there is no Talent Database to query?
  • Just like they do in medicine, is there a way in which a professional and scientific process can be used to find true talent, HENCE career, instead of guesswork?
  • Is it not wise to know the true talent of person HENCE the future career in advance before someone embarks on a destructive education or career path?
  • Cant adults who may not have had a chance to advance their education, due to other factors, find a new opportunity to upgrade the the same through their natural talents, life achievement and work experience?
